Hi, I suspect the battery in my Keyfob has expired as it will not operate door locks. Can anybody advise me if I replace the battery, does it need to be re-programmed? I have searched the Forum and cannot find any reference to this subject. V70 1997 I appreciate any replies. Thanks Colin
no it shouldnt need re programming , the batteries dont usualy just stop working , the range gradualy reduces , so if it does need re programming , read your handbook :-)

Hi Jod , These early V70 remotes are programmed in the dealer with the hand held scan tool using a PIN number from the volvo database ,much like the ignition key but they dont loose their codes like the 850 guard alarm I and II remotes sometimes do .. Perhaps a battery has actualy suddenly died :-) It is easy to check a battery with a multimeter , if the voltage is over 3v they are ok anything under 3v they often still work but need replacing
i get interferance sometimes out side our house and wont work but if we go somewere else it will . the lad over road got new hand set for his before i got our car .when the interferace is presant both cars wont work but then clears later on we dont no what it is that's doing it we tryed everything batterys new fob nothing them it works again for days on end then both stop for hour so then ok ect try battery , move car to new location try again you might have same problem as us ?

hold the fob to your head and it will increase the strength of the signal. Phone masts are a nightmare for a lot of cars with remotes. and you will be surprised to know that the remote batteries need to be more than 3v, they are about 3.4 v when new and will normally degrade quite quickly. you shouldn't need to reprogramme when changing batteries though.
Thanks for all your replies & suggestions. In fact I do have a newly erected Phone Mast 500 yds away! I will check out the keyfob battery voltage - Thanks again.
Many motorcycle alarms are the reason for alarm/car failure. It is not unknown for the bike to not work, they call out the AA/RAC etc and as the operative would be local they would advise to push the bike a bit further down the road and yup... suddenly all is as it should be. Due to the interference of mobile masts
