Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, and searched but didnt really find anything conclusive on this product Is this a recommended chip, is it a safe thing to do? I have a 2001 S60 T5. Feedback much appreciated.
You've got to admire them for the sheer quantity of high quality BS in their ebay add though, a chip which gives an extra 50 bhp yet reduces stress on all the engine components and reduces the need for oil changes, yeah, that's logical ;)
As another point, the claimed 'stochiometric combustion' that this chip is supposed to provide isn't a good thing. Piston aircraft have adjustable mixture controls, and the pilot gets the engine burning with a perfect mixture, then makes it slightly richer. The improved combustion would otherwise blast the valves right out of the engine and into a field. Stochiometric combustion is the last thing you want happening in an engine.
A young local boy racer I know fitted one and he claims as well as further wrecking his already quite well wrecked engine it also wrecked his new catalytic convertor and front oxygen sensor which he had fitted in preparation for the NCT test ( MOT ) , by the time hes finished paying he could have got the ecu remapped properly and got some real power increase , but in a way god works in mysterious ways and perhaps the roads will be safer for a little while .
