V40 Heater Matrix ???

Hi I think my heater matrix has gone, I've searched the internet and find no mention of V40 matrix - does anyone know FOR SURE if the S40 from the same year is the same matrix? 1998 V40 1.9D Has anyone changed one on a v40 - any usefull hints, tips?? The cooland is disapearing very quickly (within 30 miles the rad is nearly dry) so I've clamped the in/out hoses from the engine to stop the coolant going through the blown matrix - this morning the water temp gauge went up as normal so I assume it is ok to lock the matrix off - any comments?? I can't help you personally mate but this topic is worth a bump as someone will probably be able to help you.

If it helps, my brother had an 850 with a dodgy heater matrix and instead of repairing it I took both hoses off the bulkhead and connected them with a piece of copper pipe bent into a 'U' shape. Sorted. I would suspect the matrix from all 40's to be identical as the only difference is the obvious one. And possibly the exhaust.

Thanks - the only trouble with running with no matrix is that this time of year is F****ing cold driving to work at 6am!! If it wasnt for heated seats I would have died of hyperthermia already....... So do i really have to remover the dash, others have posted detailed instructions for bigger volvos where you can access the matrix fully from the footwell removing nothing. I know I should just go buy a Haynes manual but I'm being made redundant in 2 weeks and trying to save as many pennies as I can right now. If anyone has changed V40/S40 matrix any info would be great Thanks Nugget

Yep, that was a downside to what I did, but then it wasn't me driving!! Looks like it might be a dash out job You have checked for wet carpets etc. Could it be coming out any where else?
